Who This Service May Help
Private mobile dental visits may be suitable for patients who are housebound, frail, living with dementia, recovering after illness, staying in a care home or hospital, or unable to travel to the clinic without practical difficulty.
The service is based from the Worthing clinic and mainly covers Sussex and Surrey, with some areas of Hampshire where practical.
This is a private service. We do not provide NHS mobile dental care.
What Usually Happens At The First Visit
The first mobile visit usually involves an examination, medical history review, consent and suitability check, and advice about the next steps.
Where appropriate, the dentist may provide a written report, treatment plan or estimate after the first visit. X-rays may be used only where suitable and where they are likely to support dental assessment or treatment planning.
The first visit is not usually used for complex treatment. It helps the dentist understand what is clinically suitable, what equipment may be needed and whether care can safely be provided in the setting.
What May Be Possible At Home, Care Home Or Hospital
Depending on the assessment, a limited range of dental care may be possible away from the clinic where clinically suitable.
This may include:
Dental examination and advice.
Pain assessment and practical guidance.
Denture assessment, repair or reline advice.
New denture planning where suitable.
Advice for care home or hospital teams where appropriate.
Treatment planning and referral back to the clinic where a clinic setting is more suitable.
Denture care may be possible for some patients at home, in a care home or in hospital. This can include advice about broken dentures, sore spots, loose dentures, relines and replacement denture planning. You may also find our dentures and denture repairs pages useful.
Important Limitations
Mobile dental visits do not provide dental implants, orthodontics or sedation.
Some dental care is safer or more appropriate in the clinic, especially where specialist equipment, sedation, surgery, complex restorative treatment or ongoing monitoring is needed.
Urgent dental concerns are handled on a best-efforts basis, subject to availability, distance and clinical suitability. We cannot guarantee urgent attendance within a fixed timeframe or a hospital visit.
Care Homes And Hospitals
Care home and hospital visits may be possible where practical. Before arranging a visit, we may need details about the patient's medical history, medications, consent, mobility, access arrangements and whether a family member, carer or staff member should be present.
For care homes, group examinations may sometimes be arranged, depending on the number of residents, the travel distance and the clinical circumstances. The hospital lost dentures guide may also be useful where a denture has been lost during a hospital stay.
How To Arrange A Visit
Please call the practice on 01903 821822 or contact the Worthing clinic to discuss whether a mobile dental visit may be suitable.
It helps if you can provide:
Patient name and date of birth.
Full address and postcode.
Contact telephone number.
A short summary of the dental concern.
Relevant medical conditions and medications, if known.
Whether the patient is at home, in a care home or in hospital.
Any access, consent, mobility or communication considerations.
If a mobile visit is not suitable, the practice may advise whether clinic attendance, a private ambulance transfer or another care route should be considered.
You can also complete the medical history form if asked by the practice.
